Maxine Rickman
Provisional Psychologist (Gladesville)
Maxine is a passionate and enthusiastic Provisional Psychologist, currently completing her 5 +1 internship program on her journey towards becoming a registered psychologist. Maxine holds a Master of Professional Psychology. Maxine has a nursing background and has experience working in an inpatient psychiatric setting for both acute psychiatric presentations and psychogeriatric inpatients. Maxine has also worked with clients experiencing gender dysphoria and has an interest in this area.
Maxine also has lived experience of raising children with ADHD and so she has a good understanding of the different presentations of ADHD and how it can affect not only the person with ADHD but also their peers, siblings and loved ones. Maxine works through a neuro-affirming lens and passionately believes in a strengths-based approach to neurodiversity. She works to identify and harness the strengths that go with being neurodiverse. Maxine is also keen to support parents of children who are neurodiverse.
Maxine worked on the ‘Critical Gaps’ research project with the advocacy group ‘Parents for ADHD Advocacy Australia’. This project surveyed parents of children with ADHD and was the first ever project to look specifically at what it is like to have a child with ADHD in the Australian education system. The outcomes of the research led to Maxine’s passion for helping neurodiverse children to navigate our educational system and to reach their full potential. To this end, Maxine works as a school counsellor in a primary school and has also worked with high school students in this capacity.
